TORONTO – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada congratulates all candidates and elected parliamentarians who put their names forward to serve in public office during the September 20, 2021 General Election.
In particular, the Archdiocese extends its best wishes to all Greek-Canadian candidates, as well as to the four elected Members of Parliament of Hellenic descent: Niki Ashton, Peter Fragiskatos, Emmanuella Lambropoulos, and, Annie Koutrakis.
The statement also notes that:
“As we continue to celebrate the 200-year anniversary of Greek Independence, it is encouraging and inspiring to see Greek-Canadians – and indeed Hellenes around the world – continue to participate in the democratic process and working to advance the valued traditions of our ancestors that include love and unity, self-sacrifice, service, and commitment to the broader good.
“As elected officials will soon gather in the House of Commons to discuss and deal with the challenges facing society, including those related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we trust and are confident in the ability of our Greek-Canadian parliamentarians to also advocate for Canada’s strategic ally in the Mediterranean, Greece, as well as advance issues of religious freedom and equality for all, including the venerable Ecumenical Patriarchate.”
