Movement for Change (KINAL) party leader Fofi Gennimata presented her party's Green Social Contract policy plan at the 85th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on Wednesday evening.
Speaking at TIF's 'Ioannis Vellidis' Congress Centre, Gennimata spoke of eight proposed changes:
- A new domestic production model focusing on agri-food sector and eco-friendly orientation of general production, alternative forms of energy in relation to tourism, culture and environment
- More substantial 'Green' state investment initiatives to attract foreign and domestic investments based on a fair energy transition to a lignite-free economy
- Reorientation of the state budget and tax policy, as economy's restructuring is not feasible if based upon the resources of the EU Recovery Fund alone
- Green education with school curriculum reforms that bring environmental education in schools
- A sustainable welfare and social insurance system based on redistribution of wealth and the integration of vulnerable groups in work, social life
- Immediate increase of minimum wage to 751 euros and universal implementation of collective labor agreements
- A decentralized, digital state that disperses financial resources to local authorities nationwide
- Substantial incentives for the country's young workers, including a 3-year tax and social insurance exemption for every person up to 30 years old who starts a professional activity
"Greece is looking for a New Change," said Gennimata, and she added that KINAL can forge a new Green social contract with people, "so that the Green Deal policy outlook may not give way to an antiquated, conservative economy model based on clientelism."
