At a time when the government is chasing unvaccinated workers in public and private sector, the coronavirus is sweeping across the country and especially in touristic areas. High positivity rates are a cause of concern as the number of intubations and hospital admissions increase and many holiday-makers are returning to urban centers of the country.
According to the latest official data, the Delta variant is spreading rapidly. According to latest official data by EODY:
1,760 samples out of 1,883 with Variants of Concern (VOC) were confirmed to be of the Delta variant.
At the same time, the positivity rate index has rang the alarm bells in 13 regions, most of which are popular tourist destinations for Greeks and foreigners alike.
The problem reportedly seems to be bigger on the islands of Naxos, Ikaria, Mykonos and Andros as well as the regional units of Ilia and Messinia in southern Peloponnese.
Regions and islands with the highest percentage of positivity rate: 11 at “alarm level” and another 7 following closely.
