The early stages were low scoring, but both offences exploded in the second quarter, with a partial score of 30-35 over those ten minutes giving Monaco a 41-48 interval lead. Olympiacos rallied after the break, and there were several lead changes as the game moved towards a thrilling conclusion. Kostas Sloukas inspired Olympiacos through the latter stages, and the Reds held on to spark scenes of joyous celebrations.
Kevin Durant has a lot of fans around the world. Greek basketball fans aren’t among them.
Durant found that out the hard way on Wednesday when he attended a Game 5 EuroLeague playoff matchup between Olympiacos Piraeus and AS Monaco in Piraeus, Greece — and was met with a healthy serving of jeers.
It is presumed Durant was booed because he was there in support of former teammate Mike James and was seen cheering for James in Game 4.
Emma Stone was spotted at the game. She is in Athens to promote her upcoming short, BLEAT, which premieres this Friday.
EuroLeague Basketball also released an announcement regarding the finale of Game 5 between Olympiacos Piraeus and AS Monaco. Before even the match was finished, some fans managed to enter the court while others used flares and firecrackers.
Per EuroLeague:
Euroleague Basketball would like to strongly condemn the acts during the last minutes of Game 5 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs between Olympiacos Piraeus and AS Monaco.
The lack of security during the game led to a court invasion with the game in progress, forcing the officiating crew to pause the game until the minimum safety conditions were recovered. Severe other security breaches, including flares, lasers and firecrackers, were also observed by Euroleague Basketball. The relevant bodies will carefully review all evidence and take appropriate measures. Euroleague Basketball would like to stress that the above incidents do not represent the values that the organisation stands for, in particular those of enjoying the EuroLeague experience in a safe and friendly environment.
