Weightlifter Dimitris Bakochristos wins medal in Tokyo Paralympics

Greek weightlifter Dimitris Bakochristos added another medal to Greece's tally at the Tokyo Paralympics on Thursday, though he missed out on the silver medal due to his weight.

Speaking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, he said was very satisfied with his bronze medal and preparing for Paris, while dedicating his medal to Greece.

"I am very satisfied. Despite the fact that we had some difficulties and that I faced some injuries, in the end we were vindicated. This medal gives me great strength. I sincerely feel great emotion and pride," he said.

Asked whether he was upset to lose the medal in a tie, he said he was very pleased on the basis of the weight he has lifted in training, during a stressful preparation in difficult conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Regarding winning his second Paralympic medal, Bakochristos said that it was very important, since it showed he was among the best and had the strength to keep going for a long time.

"I dedicate this medal to all those that stood by me. To my family, my coach, my sponsors. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I want to dedicate this medal to our country, to Greece," he said.
